The primary work-camp was organised after The First World War, on Verdun’s field of honor in 1920. The project brings together ex-service men around French and German to voluntary work for refugees, in the constructing buildings. The work-camps movement was drown upon ideals of this project- building a new world- which global increased, involving today thousands of youth every year.

The workcamps provide an unique opportunity, for people of different ages, nationalities, various social, cultural an religious groups, to work, live and co-operate. Yap branches and the associated groups settle up with local community partners one to four week project. Generally, 10-20 young volunteers, with the same goal, gathers up to live in harmony and work for society.

The workcamps provide for the local communities services that cannot be provided from elsewhere. The work performed covers a wide range of areas, such as, for example, working with children, disabled people, refugees; projects aiming at environmental protection, constructing buildings for social use (schools, community centre); cultural projects, such as multicultural festivals, the restoration and preservation of local traditional values. The central idea of the work-camps is not only that of offering help during their organization, but also encouraging and stimulating the local projects in order to continue and improve working also after the end of the work-camp.
